Formed in 1955 by Alejo Peralta, Tigers De Quintana Roo made a breakthrough in the baseball world by winning the Mexican League title, beating the Tecolotes of Nuevo Laredo, in its very first season. Keeping up with the image thus formed, Tigers went on winning more League titles as well as Division titles in the years to come.
Currently owned by Carlos Peralta, Tigers form one of the most important and talented teams of Mexican League (Triple-A baseball team) located in Quintana Roo. Their name Tigers De Quintana Roo means the tigers of Quintana Roo. Because of winning the championship in its inaugural season and subsequent wins, the team was dubbed as "El equipo que nacio campeon" meaning the born champions.
Completing first fifty years of its formation, the team celebrated its 50th anniversary season in 2005 where only Mexican players played, making the season a memorable one for the team. Won by Tigers, the 2005 season was titled "Ing Alego Peralta" to pay tribute to the founder of the team, Peralta who supported this sport at the time when things were drowned in a financial crisis.
To this date, Tigers has won a total of eleven championships, the latest one in 2013, and seventeen Division titles. In 2011, the team played its eight final in the series against Diablos and won with a striking score of 4-0. Played at Foro Sol, it was a sold-out game with a large number of Tigers supporters in the stands, bucking up their team. The real show however came in 2013 when Tigers won the championship against Sultanes de Monterrey despite of the key injuries, with a brilliant score of 4-1.
Formerly known as Tigers del Mexicon, the team was first located in Mexico City where it used to play its home games at Parque del Seguro Social. It stayed there till 1999 and then moved to Foro Sol and later still to Parque Hermanos Serdan. In 2006, the team finally left Mexico City and got settled in Cancun.
Now named Tigers De Quintana Roo, the team's current home field is Beto Avila, the legendary baseball stadium with a seating capacity of more than 9000 people. Transformed impressively since the damage done by Hurricane Wilma, today Beto Avila stands proudly as the home to this Mexican League champions.
