The other four members make it to the squad as per their position on the “Women’s World Golf Rankings.”
 
From its debut in the year 1990 to the year 2002, the tournament was played on even numbered years. The schedule was modified and it began to be held on years with odd numbers. That has been the case ever since.
 
A total of a dozen Solheim Cups have been played over the years. United States have had the upper hand for the most part. They have won eight out of the twelve editions played whereas their European counterparts have managed to come out on the winning side on only four occasions.
