Sioux Falls Stampede was founded in 1999 and they are headquartered in Sioux Falls in the beautiful State of South Dakota. The team is owned by famous entrepreneur Gary Weckwerth and currently the teams head coach and manager is Kevin Hartzell. Sioux Falls Stampede play all their home matches at the very beautiful and spacious Sioux Falls Arena located on 1201 N. West Avenue in Sioux Falls , this is a multipurpose venue built to host basketball, ice hockey and indoor football games and has a capacity to seat 8000 spectators. Sioux Falls Stampede was not able to make a great impression right after debut mainly due to the reason that it was a new and novice team, in the initial seasons from 1999-2000 and 2000-2001 the record was not bad as the Stampede won 77 matches out of a total of 104 they played and finished 2^nd in the Division both times. For the next five years Stampede went into a bad patch as they were undergoing a major rebuilding process and during these seasons they lost more matches then they won and mostly finished the seasons at low rankings. 2005-06 was the first season when Sioux Falls Stampede lost only 13 matches out of a total of 60 they played and finished the season at #1 position for the first time in history. The Stampede started the 2006-07 season at a very low note as during the first six games they only managed to get a single point in the first half of the season.

In the second half of the season, things started to improve as Sioux Falls Stampede made a surprising comeback. They entered playoffs as a fourth seeded team but they stunned everyone by beating a much tougher opponent Lincoln Stars by four games and went on to beat Tri-City Storm to qualify for the final four round. Stampede then came face to face with yet another strong team Indiana Ice which was undefeated during the event, Stampede defeated them and qualified for the final championship game against the event host team Waterloo Black Hawks, the Stampede once again shined and stunned all fans and sports critics by defeating them to win their first ever prestigious Clark Cup. Since then Sioux falls Stampede have yet to give an extraordinary performance, many famous NHL (National Hockey League) players have played for Stampede like Chad LaRose (Carolina Hurricanes), Dan Sexton (Anaheim Ducks), Thomas Vanek (Buffalo Sabres), Alex Goligoski (Pittsburgh Penguins) and Andreas Nodl (Philadelphia Flyers).
