Founded in 1936, Santa Barbara Bowl is the largest outdoor performing arts facility in Santa Barbara County. It has the capacity to seat nearly forty five hundred people. The building was originally formed to serve as an annual performance venue for Fiesta. The designers created a beautiful revolving stage out of wood but unfortunately it was destroyed by the flood in 1939. Therefore, it was rebuilt as a concrete stage but that also lasted until the 2001 Concert Season. Since the cracks began to appear again, the stage was rebuilt but this time with a few new dressing rooms and restrooms. With generous philanthropic efforts of the community, the Bowl has successfully completed the first two phases of renovation.
 
The venue has its off-site parking area located at the Santa Barbara High School which is twenty yards away from the amphitheater. To enhance the overall concert experience of the patrons, the it also offers a shuttle service to and from the parking lot. However, if you decide to walk up the main path to the venue, past the Jerry Garcia sculpture courtyard, you'll walk through a beautiful glen with several old oak trees.  It is good to arrive well before the scheduled time of the performance so that you could park and enter the venue at ease without any haste. You can also grab a meal from your favorite local restaurant at the site to make up for an enchanting musical evening.
 
The Santa Barbara Bowl is simply gorgeous. As the sun goes down in the evening, the stone tile architecture makes you feel as if you are at a nice garden getaway. The facility also has a better sound quality than most other theaters in the area. As you trek up the stairs, past the courtyard and enter the venue, you can clearly listen to all the highs, lows and vocals of the performing artist.
