On the back of one of the meanest defenses in the league, Club Tijuana went on to qualify for the playoffs for the first time in their history where they would being eliminated in the first round.
 
Club Tijuana went a a few steps further next year. They once again qualified for the "Liga MX" and went on to clinch the title in style. With that triumph they set a new record of winning the crown in the shortest time ever for a team after its promotion to the top level of soccer in Mexico.
