The plot of the musical Parade begin with the time of American Civil War when a young soldier waves goodbye to his loved ones and then it shows the year 1913 when he is an old veteran preparing for the Confederate Memorial Day Parade. That is where the title of the musical came from. Loe Frank, at the same time is shown in a state of dissatisfaction with his wife, as well as the situation in the city. Frank's wife also thinks that she's not married to the right person but when it comes to a difficult situation, she supports her husband.
A young girl named Mary goes to the factory in order to collect her pay from the manager (Frank) and she was found dead in the office the same night. Frank is woken up by two policemen the same night and asked to accompany them to the factory. A shocking situation takes place when the 13 year old Mary is seen dead at the factory, Frank gets arrested. Most of the people turn against Frank and insist to hang him. Whereas, his wife supports him to bits, saying that he is innocent. Leo Frank's deep speech makes people feel for him, but he still gets hanged. The musical numbers throughout the show make the situations intense, as there is a great number which fits at every situation. The story takes many turns during Frank's trial and various suspenseful and intense situations come across.
The success of Parade during the initial years led to its production in other countries and many cities within America. After it received much appreciation in America, the show was seen in Australia in 2006, followed by a 2007 production in London and Ireland. The year 2009 brought it to Los Angeles whereas this year the people of London can enjoy it once again. The musical has won 9 Tony Awards including the award for Best Score, Outstanding Musical, Outstanding Set Design and Best Book. It also earned the Drama Desk Awards six times as well as various other local awards. The characters which are casted in Parade have really given their best, making it popular across the world.
