The Quinnipiac Bobcats are the many teams that make up the athletics program of the Quinnipiac University. Known formerly as the Quinnipiac Braves, they are members of the Northeast Conference in the NCAA Division I, except for the ice hockey teams which are part of the East Coast Athletic Conference. There are a total of twenty one varsity teams; fourteen women's and seven men's. The most successful team in the program is the women's ice hockey team and, with the men's ice hockey team, the most popular in the university. In 2010, a monumental event in the history of the NCAA took place. The women's ice hockey team played against the Rensselaer Engineers, losing after a record five overtimes, creating the longest ice hockey game in the history of the NCAA. The same year, Kelly Babstock of the team scored six of the total seven goals scored with back to back hat tricks against teams from Harvard, ranked tenth nationally, and Dartmouth. She became the first skater to record two hat tricks in one season. She also had the largest number of goals in the NCAA, at thirteen, with twenty seven points. They have also received a record twenty awards and honors.
