The 2009 tournament started with teams including, Duke and Coastal Carolina, Charlotte and Elon, Arizona State and Texas State, TCU and Cal State Northridge, LSU and Indiana State, Western Kentucky and UW-Milwaukee, Connecticut and Colgate, Hofstra and Yale which has now come down to the teams which will play in finals and that will be one super game as usual.
National Invitation Tournament started one year before NCAA, in 1938. In the beginning, the original field of the tournament consisted of only six teams which grew to 8 teams in 1941. After that, the success and fame of NIT kept growing till there were 12 teams in the tournament in 1949, growing to 14 teams in 1965, 16 teams in 1968, 24 teams in 1979 and 32 teams in 1980. And as recent as in 2002, the teams in the National Invitation Tournament reached to 40. Over all these years, the Tournament has provided innumerable memorable moments for every basketball fan and has introduced and made successful many prospective players. NIT has presented the world with some excellent players since its beginning which includes Robert Traylor from Michigan, Erick Strickland from Nebraska, Voshon Lenard from Minnesota, Bryant Stith from Virginia, Adam Keefe from Stanford, Jason Williams from St. John's, Reggie Miller from UCLA, Ralph Samson from Virginia and Walt Frazier from Southern Illinois. These players have made their marks in the hearts of their fans for a long time and the list of top players will keep on filling.
