North Carolina State Wolfpack is the name given to the varsity teams of North Carolina State University. The teams compete in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. They entertain twenty four athletic teams, both men's and women's. Among the most successful of their teams is the Wolfpack basketball club. Now the team is going to start the brand new season. The 1st November match is going to be played at the PNC Arena, Raleigh. North Carolina State Wolfpack basketball team is the founding member of the Atlantic Coast Conference and currently competes in it as well. Before joining ACC, the team played under Southern Conference, where they managed to win seven conference titles. In ACC, the team has won ten conference championships as well as two national titles. Wolfpack's win of 1983 was highly unexpected and became one of the most memorable victories in the history of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Majority of the home games of North Carolina State Wolfpack are held at the PNC Arena. PNC Arena is an indoor facility located in the heart of North Carolina. The ground opened in October of 1999. It has a seating capacity of 19,772 for basketball crowd and 18,680 for ice hockey. The building also comprises of a 300 seat restaurant as well as three concourses. Apart from being home to Wolfpack's basketball team, the ground is also the home arena of National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes. It is ACC's third and NCAA's eight largest arena.

 

North Carolina State Wolfpack's current head coach is Mark Gottfried, who took the position in April of 2011. In the very first season as head coach, he recorded 22-12 overall season record as well as a regular season winning record of 9-7 in ACC. The team made it to the ACC tournament semi finals. The team under his leadership won No 11 seed in NCAA Tournament 2012's Midwest region. Wolfpack managed to win the tournament games against #6 San Diego State as well as Georgetown of No 3 and made it to the Sweet Sixteen. However, there they lost to Kansas.

 

North Carolina State Wolfpack entered the season of 2012 - 13 with very high hopes attached to Gottfried, as it was to be his second season after a smashing first one. According to the poll by Associated Press, the team ranked sixth at the start of the season. However, although they did not meet the high expectations of the fans and media, but still managed to put on a good show. Now the team under coach Gottfried is entering the third season.
