The NCAA Hockey East Championship marks the final game of the NCAA Division I Hockey East association's mightiest college hockey teams. The Hockey East Association was founded in 1984 and is a conference that is a part of the NCAA Division I. Its members play amazing ice hockey, with twelve university hockey programs calling it home. Divided, these are eleven men's teams and eight women's teams. NCAA Hockey East Championship tickets are always in an all-time high demand among all ice hockey fans.
Colleges in New England and the Midwest are geared up for the NCAA Hockey East Championship which features the conference's best. Only the teams from the ice hockey conference Hockey East Association take part in the game. This conference was formed from members of what is today the ECAC Hockey conference and was patterned after the Big East Conference. It is today one of the most successful conferences in the US. In 2011, the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish, a Midwest college, joined the conference and became the first school from outside New England to be part of the conference.
Members of the Hockey East Association, each of whom have a shot at winning the NCAA Hockey East Championship, are many and marvelous. The Boston College Eagles and the Boston University Terriers from Massachusetts are members of the association. The University of Connecticut Huskies is also set to join the conference while the University of Maine Black Bears is already a member. The University of Massachusetts Amherst Minutemen, the University of Massachusetts Lowell River Hawks and the Merrimack College Warriors are also part of the association. Rounding the conference up are the University of New Hampshire Wildcats, the Northeastern University Huskies, the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the University of Vermont Catamounts and the Providence College Friars.
The first two championship games were held at the Dunkin Donuts Center, followed by the Boston Garden from 1987 until 1996. Since then, the championship has been held at the TD Garden. The women's championship was won three times in a row by the Providence College Friars in 2003, 2004 and 2005 followed by the New Hampshire Wildcats in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. From 2010 to 2013, the Boston University Terries won the championship. The Providence College Friars won the first men's championship with the Boston College Eagles winning the championship the most times, at nine. They also have the largest number of appearances in the championship game, at fourteen. In 2008, Boston College won the men's championship, followed by Boston University in 2009. Boston College won the championship again in 2010, in 2011 and in 2012. The University of Massachusetts Lowell won the 2013 championship and may be up again for the title in 2014 where they may be seen live with NCAA Hockey East Championship tickets in hand.
