The Muskegon Lumberjacks is a tier 1 junior hockey team that is a member of the US Hockey League, the USHL. It is part of its Eastern Conference and calls the city of Muskegon in Michigan. It was founded in 2010 and presently plays its home games and practices at the L. C. Walker Arena. Its official colors are vegas gold, black and white. It is owned by Josh Mervis, who is also the team's general manager. It is coached by head coach Jim McKenzie. They are a franchise formed to replay the International Hockey League franchise of the same name, which stopped playing in 2010. Just after their founding, the Muskegon Lumberjacks won three straight games in four days, during which their first hat trick was scored by Matt Berry against the Chicago Steel in a match that took place in Bensenville, Illinois. They then defeated the Chicago Steel to grab a place in the Clark Cup playoffs. Following that, two of their forwards and one of their defensemen were honored as part of the CCM Eastern Conference All-Star Team. They then went on to defeat Team USA in a best of three series and became the last five teams to be there in the Clark Cup Playoffs in the 2010 to 2011 season, a remarkable achievement for a team hardly a year old.
During the 2011 to 2012 season, the Muskegon Lumberjacks saw a new head coach, Jim Mckenzie, a Stanley Cup winner with fifteen brilliant years in the NHL. They started off the year by hosting the USHL NHL Top Prospects Game which starred the best players in the USHL eligible for being drafted into the NHL during the 2012 NHL Draft. Three of their players were part of this phenomenal game. They went on to brutally defeat the Indiana with Dakota Klecha's hat trick recognized as a USHL Record for the Fastest Goal from the start of a game, in just seven seconds after the first period.
