Located in Titans Way, the LP Field is a football stadium that was inaugurated back in 1999. Costing a whopping amount of two hundred and ninety million dollars to construct, the facility is owned by Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County. The football arena is not only popular for hosting some of the most highly anticipated international football competitions; it is also a hub for music festivals and concerts. Amongst these include the CMA Music Festival, held around the month of June, annually. This time the venue is all set to become host to yet another edition of the Music City Bowl. The National Collegiate Athletics' Association certified football bowl game inaugurated in 1998 and was first held at the Vanderbilt Stadium. A year later after the construction of the LP Field, the game was moved to the arena and has been holding annual matches ever since. Over the years sponsors of the event has been changing and so has the name of the event. Back in 1998 it was first known as American General Life & Accident Music City Bowl, after which Bridgestone became their official sponsors from 2003 to 2007. From then onwards the annual game was named Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl till 2007. In 2010, Franklin American Mortgage purchased the naming rights and is still its biggest sponsor.

The Music City Bowl initially presented games between teams of Big East Conference and Southeastern Conference. In 2002, the Big Ten Conference replaced the Big East Conference. The year 2006 foresaw a further change as the Atlantic Coast Conference was seen taking the place of the Big Ten Conference. Currently, teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference and the Southeastern Conferences compete for the big win. The debut Music City Bowl was won by Virginia Tech Hokies who were able to defeat Alabama Crimson Tide with a score of 38-7. 2012's event was dominated by the Vanderbilt Commodores who won against the NC State Wolfpack, 38 to 24. The debut game established the record of the most lopsided score, with Alabama scoring the lowest score of 7.
