Major League Lacrosse is a name of a professional league of outdoor Lacrosse comprising all over the United States. The league has a combination of 10 teams in two conferences at present times, Eastern and Western.

The foundation of MLL was done by Jake Steinfeld, Dave Morrow and Tim Robertson in the year of 1999, and it had started the regular season play in the month of June in 2001.

Steinfeld is already quite known for developing the Body by Jake line of exercise equipment and videos. Morrow is a former All-American lacrosse player and the president of Warrior Lacrosse.

The usual season starts off in the month of May and ends in August. MLL has some of the rules, which are different from traditional lacrosse rules, it includes: a two-point goal line 16 yards (15 m) from each goal, a 60-second shot clock, a limit of three long-stick defensemen per team and there is an elimination round of the restraining box.

The shot clock had been changed from 45-seconds to 60-seconds in the year of 2005. MLL had conducted its first draft in on January 13, 200.

After the completion of the draft, the league assigned each team three players, goalie Sal LoCascio was the first player selected by Bridgeport.

MLL had announced in the month of March of 2005 that the league had an expansion plan up to Los Angeles in the year of 2006. It was also decided that the home games would be played at The Home Depot Center onwards. AEG, Inc. was announced as the franchise's owner and operator.

MLL had later announced in the year of 2005 that Denver, Colorado would also be home to an expansion franchise. The league had added teams in the Chicago, Illinois and San Francisco, California markets, creating a western conference for these teams.

The league had a great marketing strategy and it had gained many sponsors to help for its growth. There are the big sponsors like New Balance, Warrior Lacrosse, Bud Light, Tommy Hilfiger, Gatorade, Cascade, Brine, Gear-Up Sports, Under Armour, First National Bank of Omaha, Starbucks and many other included in the list.

There was a division of league into the American Division, which included Boston, Bridgeport and Long Island, and the National Division including Baltimore, New Jersey, and Rochester, right from 2001 to 2005. The MLL had played a 14-game regular season in the very first two years.

The league's playoff format includes the top teams in every division, which had advancement to the New Balance MLL Championship Weekend, with two wildcard playoff spots going to the teams with the best remaining records regardless of division.

The MLL had a plan to add even two more expansion teams in the, preferably in the western half of the country. The idea includes a thought to balance the number of teams in each conference.

Cities under consideration are Cincinnati, Dallas, Portland, Salt Lake City, San Diego, Seattle, and St. Louis. In an effort to test markets as potential expansion/relocation candidates.
