Mikkel Kessler
Mikkel Kessler is a famous professional boxer who is also honored as the current WBA Super Middleweight champion of the world. This Danish boxer was born on March 1, 1979 and started gaining interest in this Boxing when he was very young.
Kessler has always been a skilled boxer. He started campaigning as a light middleweight and then middleweight for the first 22 fights of his career. He won 16 of these fights by knockout (KO).
After this he settled in the super middleweight division. Here, too, Kessler continued his hard hitting streak, dispatching 6 of his first 7 opponents by KO, thereby improving his record to 29-0 with 22 KO.
Kessler fought for his first championship on November 29, 2002 and became the International Boxing Association champion by defeating former World Boxing Council super middleweight champion Dingaan Thobela over twelve rounds to.
He then fought for the more recognized WBC International title on April 11. Kessler defeated Craig Cummings by a knockout in the third round and became the winner.
Kessler defended this crown on three occasions before finally hitting it big on November 12, 2004 when he defeated Manny Siaca in a match originally to be played by his stablemate, Mads Larsen.
Larsen was injured in training and Kessler took the fight on short notice, winning the title. Kessler defended his title in 2005 and 2006 by beating Anthony Mundine and Eric Lucas respectively.
Kessler got the ?super champion? status on October 14, 2006 when he won the WBC title in a unification battle against WBC World Champion Markus Beyer. The game was played in Parken Stadium and Kessler won by knockout at 2:58 in round 3.
He then went on to defend his WBA super/WBC titles in 2007 when he defeated the WBC mandatory challenger Librado Andrade. The thrilling fight was scored as a shutout (120-108) by all three judges.
On November 3, 2007, he lost to Joe Calzaghe in an open challenge for a unification of the titles. He lost this crucial game but won the hearts of 50,000 fans with his skilled play making it the largest indoor boxing event in European history.
Kessler, the Hitman had some very good fights in 2008 as well. Kessler pursued a new World title fight in the first half of 2008.
Kessler faced Dimitri Sartison, on June 21st 2008 in Brondby Hallen, for the vacant WBA Super Middleweight Title. He dominated the fight from the very first round and won the match by knockout in the 12th round.
