Messi was born on 24th June, 1987. He began to play soccer aged five for a team named Grandoli. He then made the switch to Newell's Old Boys. It wasn't long before his talents were noticed by the scouts of FC Barcelona and Messi enrolled himself at the "La Masia," the club's famous youth academy.

He played a big part in taking Barcelona to the semifinals of the Champions League next season. He reached new heights in the 2008-2009 campaign and broke multiple records to help his team win the Copa del Rey, La Liga and the Champions League. He also won the first of his four "World Player of the Year" awards at the end of that season. For the second successive year at the end of 2009-2010 season, he again proved a majore factor in ensuring that Barcelona became the champions of Spain . Next campaign saw Barca win both the La Liga and the Champions League one more time on the way to once again being crowned World Player of the Year. Real Madrid won the La Liga back from Barcelona after three years but Messi still scored an incredible seventy two goals, creating a new European record.
He has also played for Argentina seventy-nine times, scoring thirty goals. He is the only player in the history of the sport to be crowned the best player in the world as many as four times. He has also the all time scorer for Barcelona now which is an incredible achievement.
