The Kiss marks the third Los Angeles team to play in the Arena Football League. The first team to play in the league were the Los Angeles Cobras, followed by the Los Angeles Avengers. Kiss, the rock band, purchased a share in the AFL expansion team after performing at 2013's ArenaBowl XXVI.

They began playing in the 2011 season as one of four new expansion franchises, along with the San Jose SaberCats, the Philadelphia Soul and the Kansas City Command. During the 2012 season, the franchise spawned an All-Arena player, P. J. Berry, who was also an All-Ironman player. They have also been coached by some amazing coaches, including Chris Siegfried in the 2011 season, followed by Derek Stingley in 2012 and Ron James as of the 2014 season.
