The Iowa Barnstormers were founded in 1994 and play today at Des Moines's Wells Fargo Arena. They joined the Arena Football League in 1995 and were members of the Central Division of the American Conference until 2000. In 2001, they joined the af2 league but left after a year and played independently for several years. In 2008, they again joined the af2 league but left in 2009 to become members of the Arena Football League once again. From 2010 to 2013, they were part of the National Conference of the league and joined the American Conference's East Division in 2014. This is a franchise owned by Matt Strawn and Jeff Lamberti with John Pettit as the general manager and Mike Hohensee as the head coach.
The Barnstormers, one half of the Iowa vs Pittsburgh Power game, have won five Division championships and appeared six times in the playoffs. The current team is the old team's reincarnation, founded in 2008. Many of its members have been inducted into the Arena Football Hall of Fame including owner Jim Foster, players Kurt Warner and Jon Roehlk, and most recently, head coach Mike Hohensee in 2012. Many more of their players have been part of the All-Arena teams, with Kurt Warner and Jesse Schmidt playing twice and Carlos James playing thrice. At the Iowa vs Pittsburgh Power game, which promises to be one of the most exciting yet, they will face the Power from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The Pittsburgh Power, a fabulous AFL franchise, plays in the city's Consol Energy Center. It has been a member of the Arena Football League since 2011 and is also part of the East Division of the American Conference. Its official colors are gold and black and its owners are Lynn Swann and Matt Shaner, who is also the team's general manager. Ron James is the franchise's head coach. They share a stadium with the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins and has the same color scheme as them. They are also one of the most talented teams in the Arena Football League with player P. J. Berry named the All-Arena team and the All-Ironman team in 2012.
