Idaho Vandals have sixteen athletic teams in total and its Men's Basketball program and Football program are among its major programs. Playing its home games at the Kibbie Dome's Cowan Spectrum, Vandals Men's Basketball team has made it to the NCAA tournament on four occasions. The team's most recent appearance was back in 1990. Apart from that, Vandals have also made it to the Sweet Sixteen once in 1982. Vandals have also won Conference Tournament Championship four times and conference regular season championship five times in total. In 1983, Vandals also participated in National Invitation Tournament and quite recently, the team has also played in the Collegeinsider.com Tournament on three occasions.

Vandals' football team is one of the oldest athletic programs at the University of Idaho. The football team has been actively playing ever since its inception back in 1893. The team has been playing its home games at the Kibbie Dome ever since 1971. Being one of the oldest athletic programs of the university, Vandals' football team enjoys widespread fan following and loyal support all across the surrounding region. Over the years, the team has been able to get its hands on ten Conference Championship titles, and have made eleven playoff appearances. Vandals have also appeared in two Post Season Bowls and claimed two victories in Boise at the Humanitarian Bowl.

Other notable athletic programs at the University also include Baseball, which claimed four conference championship titles back when team played in the Big Sky Conference. The baseball team plays its home games at the Guy Wicks field located at the north end of the campus.
