There are oodles of things one could admire in the preseason basketball tournaments like the Aeropastale Classic. Secondly, they ensure lots of good, quality entertainment before the actual season starts. Thirdly and finally that they serve as warm up games for the next season. But that is not all about the Aeropastale Classic! It is said to be the first as well as the final games end the end of every year which provides oodles of fun for the college basketball fans, especially during the Christmas and holiday season. This time around, the tournament is highly anticipated and anxiously awaited by not only the Gonzaga Bulldogs but their rapid fans as well.
The Gonzaga Bulldogs are one of the most exciting basketball teams at college level today. Gonzaga Bulldogs is a name given to all the athletic teams of Gonzaga University. The varsity is a registered to play in the West Coast Conference and takes part in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I. For sometime in the early 1910s, the Bulldogs were nicknamed the Fighting Irish. The reason for this nickname is unknown but it was officially dropped in 1921 and replaced with Bulldog which is still their official mascot to date. Another unofficial nickname is Zags. This term is often used unofficially in several marketing campaigns as well as in commercials etc. Fans and commentators use the term alike. More so, there is also an unofficial mascot by the name of Zags. There are a total of 16 Bulldogs teams, both men and women which compete in 9 different sports. The best perhaps is the men's basketball team which has made the varsity proud on several occasions and is looking great for the preseason Aeropostale Classic tournament as well.
Although the official colors of the varsity athletic team is black and white but the Bulldog Men's Basketball team uses red along with the regular black and white as an alternate uniform with the official logo of a ferocious bulldog, flashing its fierce canines, complete with a spiky red collar and the alphabets GU standing for Gonzaga University. Regardless of the fact that the team plays in the minor West Coast Conference, the magnificent performances of the Bulldogs have earned them a respectable place amongst the elite basketball powers at collegiate level. Gonzaga have won a total of 380 games, which is more than any other team in 3 Pacific States and they have achieved all this since 1992.
Along with that honor, the Bulldogs are also one of the very few varsities which made it past nine NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournaments and the only varsity to have done so which does not belongs to the hi-fi conferences. When the Bulldogs shot up the National AP ranking in 2004 and became the 3rd best collegiate team, euphoria ran through the corridors of Gonzaga University. The coach of the Bulldogs, Mark Few is another super star of the team as he ranked 4th amongst all time NCAA Division 1 wins for a coach in 2006 - 07 season. The Gonzaga University has produced great many players over the years which hit the professional basketball arena with a bang! Most notable of them all is the alumnus who was inducted in the NBA Hall of Famer is John Stockton. He was started off at college level playing for the Bulldogs in the early 1990s. J P Batista, Ronny Turaif, Adam Morrison, Casey Calvary and Cory Violette are most notable.
The early Bulldogs years are full of struggle and hard work which finally paid off in 1999 when the team finally became one of the Elite Eight when it participated in the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight. The squad for the Elite Eight is widely believed to be the one which is ultimately credited with putting the Bulldogs on the map of more serious collegiate level basketball. The years that followed brought sheer glory as the team made it into the NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen in 2000, 2001, 2006 and then again in 2009. Other than that they have made several NCAA Tournament appearances like in 1995, 1999, 2000, and 2001 to 2009 for consecutive 9 years in a row! Not only this but the team won the Conference Tournament championship in 1995, 1999, 2000, 2001-2, 2004-07 and 2009 along with Conference regular season Championships of 1994, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2001 to 2009. Which is why I say what I say, grab Aeropostale Cassic: Gonzaga Bulldogs tickets and show the Cinderella Men some respect!
