Smith Center  to play against the Colonials in front of their home crowd. Make sure you have George Washington Colonials vs La Salle Explorers tickets to watch this stirring, high energy action between the two quality basketball sides.

The Explorers have appeared in the NCAA tournament twelve times, ending up in the final four twice. They have won the NCAA tournament champions in 1955. They have had their name on the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship four times and have won the Philadelphia Big 5 city championship eight times. On the other hand, the Colonials have made ten appearances in the NCAA Tournament, going on to feature in the sweet sixteen once. They have been the Conference tournament champions five times and the regular season champions twice.

Both the basketball teams compete in the Division I of the NCAA as part of the Atlantic 10 Conference. This conference consists primarily of teams located in the eastern seaboard of the United States. This is a non-football conference and contrary to what the name might suggest, consists of thirteen fully participating teams.

The La Salle University was formed in 1863 and has a close association with the Catholic Church. The institute offers many traditional courses and is named after St. Jean-Baptiste de La Salle. However, the nickname of the Explorers comes from Sieur de La Salle, the French Explorer. A local sportswriter made the mistake of writing that the University name comes from Sieur de La Salle. Even though it was incorrect, the name became quite popular and ever since then, the sports teams have been called the Explorers.

The Charles E. Smith Center which will be the venue of the game  is a multi-purpose arena which can hold up to five thousand spectators. The Colonials athletic teams, namely the swimming, gymnastics, basketball and volleyball teams, all use it as their home arena. Inaugurated in 1975, the Smith Center had a cost of five million dollars attached with it. It underwent extensive renovations in 2008 after the university allocated forty three million dollars for its update and expansion.
