The Furman Paladins have gone on to become a celebrated name in university athletics. Highly skilled, they have proved to be strong contenders in the NCAA Division I. The Paladins represent twenty different teams. All of these teams have shown great performances in their respective sports and have gone on to make their presence felt at numerous tournaments. Sports tournaments that Paladins have shined at include NCAA I-AA National Football Championship, NCAA Southeast Regional Cross Country championships, Southern Conference championship and Football Championship Subdivision.

The athletic teams representing the Furman University are based in Greenville, South Carolina. Both male and female athletes participate in these teams and sports. The soccer teams of the club have also received fame for its skill in the sport. They have gone on to be included in the top three teams in the US. Several professional players started their career with the team. These include Shea Salinas, Ricardo Clark, Jonathan Leathers, Clint Dempsey and many more. Not staying behind, the Paladins baseball athletic program has shown great promise by appearing in the Southern Conference championship. They closed the 2012 season with an impressive twenty nine wins. Noted players likeLewis 'Elliott' Warford have turned up to play for the Paladins..

Another team worth mentioning is the university's football team that has won twelve Southern Conference football titles so far. They have made it to the NCAA I-AA National Football Championship thrice. Also the team holds the distinction of being one of the six private universities that have appeared in I-AA Football Championship game.

The rugby teams of the university have won the East Coast Collegiate Division III Championship consecutively for three years. Other games played by the club include sailing, track and field, swimming and diving, volleyball, track and field and cross country.
