The race is held every year in August on the night before the Sharpie 500, a Sprint Cup Series race. The debut race was staged on 27th August, 1982 which won by Jack Ingram driving his Pontiac. It remained a one hundred and fifty lap race for the first two years. That was changed to two hundred laps in 1985 and then to the current 250 laps format in the year 1990.
It is staged at the wonderful Bristol Motor Speedway. The track was constructed in 1960 and can play host to a staggering one hundred and sixty thousand fans at a single time which ranks it among the biggest sports venues in the world today. It is a very short race track that gives the race a very different feel.
