Details of Fifa Women's World Cup and the Ticket Luck value
Women started playing soccer in the late nineteenth century and by 1960's, an official women's soccer league had been formed in England. Since then, women's soccer has featured prominently in the annual FIFA calendar and several women's tournaments are also contested by some of the best international and local soccer teams in the world.
One such tournament is the FIFA Women's World Cup, the most prominent and prestigious soccer championship in the sport. Held every four years, it features the best national squads in women's soccer from around the globe, as they face off in a series of exciting fixtures. The latest edition of this exhilarating tournament is now just around the corner. Book your FIFA Women's World Cup tickets and you too can enjoy these amazing games, live.
The FIFA Women's World Cup was first held in 1991 in China. The FIFA president at the time, João Havelange came up with the idea to promote women's soccer around the globe. China was selected as the host because it had hosted a similar event a few years earlier, called the FIFA Women's Invitation Tournament in 1988. It was felt that they would be the most suitable host nation for the tournament as they had all the facilities required for such an event. Twelve teams took part in the championship and representatives from each FIFA confederation were present there.
The tournament was not given the 'World Cup' title until quite a few years later. FIFA wanted to protect the World Cup acronym and decided to call the event the “1st FIFA World Championship for Women's Football for the M&M's Cup.” The tournament followed the same format as the one used today. The first round is called the qualifying round. Different groups are made with each containing four teams. The top two sides then move to the next round. The second round is the knockout round which is followed by the quarter finals, the semi finals and the final.
The first edition was won by the U.S.A when they beat Norway 2 to 1 to clinch the title. Since then the teams from U.S.A and Germany have won the tournament twice followed by Norway and Japan, who have both won it once. To date, the Brazilian, Marta and the German, Birgit Prinz have scored fourteen goals each to become the most prolific goal scorers in women's soccer World Cup's history. Starting this year, FIFA has also increased the number of teams taking part from twelve to twenty four, in order to make the event much more competitive.
The upcoming tournament is expected to be an absolute cracking event in which any team could win. The increase in the number of participants is also proof of the rising popularity of women's soccer around the world and is indicative of changing times in the sport itself. The tournament will be held in Canada and here's your chance to be a part of it.
