In 2008, in order to advance to the Elite Eight Wildcats claimed a victory over Georgetown Hoyas, Gonzaga Bulldogs and Wisconsin Badgers. The team was almost at the doorstep of making it to the final four but all in vain when they lost to Kansas Jayhawks. Apart from that, Wildcats have also made five appearances in the National Invitation Tournaments as well as an appearance in College Basketball Invitation. Davidson Wildcats' football team on the other hand plays its home games at the Richardson Stadium located in Davidson North Carolina under the leadership of the head coach Tripp Merritt. The history of the football at the Davidson goes all the way back to 1897 when the first team was fielded. The team currently plays as a member of Pioneer Football League in the NCAA Div I Football Championship Subdivision.
 
The first intercollegiate game in which the Wildcats participated took place back in November 1898 when the college went toe to toe with the University of North Carolina. The game was a big deal for both sides, which is why an entire train of supporters from the college was taken to cheer the team up in Charlotte. Even though the Wildcats ended up losing the match, but that surely marked the dawn of the college football in Davidson College. So all hope was not lost by that defeat.
