Nicknamed as The Elephants, they have made it to three consecutive World Cups which includes their 2006 qualification in Germany. The team couldn't go beyond the group stage. Following this it also qualified for the 2010 World Cup but again it couldn't go any further than the group stage. Let's see how far their capabilities take them this time.
Since the formation of Cote d'Ivoire, they have had several honors to their name. They won the 1992 Africa Cup of Nations along with the CEDEAO Cup in 1983, 1987 and 1991. Their most recent victory has been the Toulon Tournament which they won in 2010. The Ivory Coast played against Denmark in the finals and had a victory over them by one goal, scoring a total of three goals. Cote d'Ivoire is also known for winning the two highest scoring penalty shoot outs in international football competitions. One was in the 1992 African Cup of Nations when the team defeated Ghana while the other one was in the quarter-final match of 2006 African Cup of Nations when they had a victory over Cameroon.
Cote d'Ivoire ended the year 2013 as Africa's best ranked team according to the FIFA rankings. It started the year as being on the top of the continental rankings. Throughout the year, the team didn't let the position fall even once and maintained it till the end qualifying as Africa's only team in the Top 20 for the FIFA World Cup.
The team owes much of its success to Didier Drogba who is the current captain and the all time top scorer of the side. He helped the team in qualifying for each of the World Cups by displaying his exceptional goal scoring abilities. Owing to his talent he was named the "African Footballer of the Year" in 2009. This year marks the third time Cote d'Ivoire has made it to the World Cup. See whether they take home this year's trophy or not.
