Seattle Sounders FC were founded in November 2007 as the fifteenth expansion team of the MLS. The Sounders name was chosen by the fans through an online poll of 2008 that made the Seattle Sounders the third soccer team in the city to have the same moniker. Yet again next year, they won the championship, marking their third back-to-back win by defeating the famous Chicago Fires. In 2012, they entered their fourth open cup final in a row but were defeated by Sporting Kansas City. This loss was incurred from a penalty shootout for when the regulation time ended with a one to one score.
