The Cedar Rapids Titans are the first ever franchise from Iowa to play in the Indoor Football League. The IFL started in 2008 and the Titans were added to the league as an expansion team in 2011. 2012 was their first season in the league and so far they have impressed with their performances. In their two seasons, they have reached the playoffs on both occasions, narrowly missing out on a championship. The team currently plays in the United Conference and was created as a chance to bring economic development to the Cedar Rapids area in Iowa.
The decision to give Cedar Rapids its own team turned out to be a successful one as fans flock to games when their team is playing. Dressed in black, teal and white, the city's inhabitants seem to have taken a liking to this new addition to their sporting roster and they show their support whenever they can.
The main purpose of the IFL is to be used as a development league where players improve their game and are eventually picked by teams from the NFL or CFL. Even though it hasn't given any big names to the game yet, a number of players have been drafted in NFL teams. The difference between the IFL and NFL is that IFL games are played indoors on a smaller pitch, making it more competitive and adding more excitement to the game. The league currently comprises of 10 teams but this number is bound to change as expansion teams are added almost every year since its inception.
In these three short years, seven of the Rapids' players have been featured in the IFL all-star team. They've also managed to make some big signings including a former Green Bay Packers player Nicholas Cooper. This is just one addition to their lineup as the team is making major signings ahead of the 2015 season. The coaching staff also consists of ex-NFL players and coaches, making the team shape up into a formidable unit.
The Titans ended their first season in 2012 with a 9-5 win ratio. With this impressive feat, they made it into the playoffs but lost their chance at the title. The 2013 season was even better for them where they made the playoffs once again but couldn't convert that into a championship. The current season has seen the team take on a new energy where they seem destined for greatness. The fan's eyes are all on the new team line-up and coaching staff to finally deliver a championship in the team's early years.
The Titans play their home games at the US Cellular Center in the downtown area of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This multi-purpose arena cost $8 million to build and was first opened to the public in 1979. Since then, the 8,500 capacity arena has hosted a number of notable events and sports matches. In addition to holding NBA games, the arena has hosted a number of WCW (World Championship Wrestling) events in addition to concerts by musicians such as 'Yes' and 'Lady Antebellum'. Ever since the arena was renovated in 2011, it has also hosted National Volleyball Association championship matches.
The people of Cedar Rapids are crazy about their home team. Most of the team's home and away matches are sold out and the US Cellular Center is the venue for a number of riveting matchups every season. This season is bound to be no different with the team hosting a number of sides at home. Whenever a match is on, Cedar Rapids Titans tickets fly off the shelves. This is why all the Titans fans need to make sure they get their tickets way before the actual matches. Whether you're looking for season passes or just one-day tickets, it's better to be safe than sorry.
