?The California Victory' is a team from San Francisco that plays professional soccer. It belongs to the United Soccer Leagues First Division. In October 2006, the USL President announced that Dmitry Piterman acquired a USL First Division franchise, and this was to commence from the 2007 season.
The California Victory, which is now a European owned team, is the first of its kind to play United Soccer Leagues. In addition to this, it is also known as the first USL First Division team in California after the ?San Diego Flash' [2001]. You can see this team playing at the Kezar Stadium, which was previously home to the ?San Francisco 49ers' and ?Oakland Rangers'.
Dmitry Piterman achieved two of his passions when he acquired the USL franchise. He marveled the Bay area, since he lived and attended college there, and he was also passionate about soccer. This is why he gives so much time to this sport.
Piterman also believed that his two passions were a perfect match. In his words, Piterman says, The San Francisco Bay Area is one of the premier markets in the world? The world's best city and the world's most popular sport are a perfect match.
It is clear that Piterman's life practically revolves around soccer. This is reflected in the name that he chose for his acquired club. He has connected one part of his sporting and professional life with his newly acquired team. Piterman is president of the Spanish club, Deportivo Alav?s, and he named the ?California Victory' after Alav?s' home city, Vitoria-Gasteiz. That's where part of the name [Victory] comes from.
With this Spanish connection, it is inevitable that there will be a handful of Spanish players playing for the California Victory. In exchange, the prospects for young talent from California are bright. There are many players who are eager to stretch their careers to Europe. According to coach Straatum, There is definitely an opportunity for the younger players, as they'll be eager to play in La Liga [in Spain]? That's what makes this team so unique.
The California Victory also signed professional Latin American soccer players. They also included players from college, USL, and MLS. With such a variety for the team management to choose from, it is no wonder why coach Van Straatum says the California Victory promises a unique formula. The team is disciplined, and has well-organized defense as well as attack moves.
California Victory Management:
The California Victory's general manager is a well-known soccer coach and executive, Terry Fisher. With Glenn Van Straatum serving as team coach, Hugo Perez will serve as his assistant.
Team Supporters:
There is a particular term, known as ?1906' that is used for describing supporters of the California Victory. This number [1906] is symbolic because it is the year of the 1906 San Francisco fire and earthquake. However, 1906 refers to the early fan support for the ?San Jose Earthquakes' and the ?San Francisco Seals' soccer teams. The ?1906' supporters are easily identified by the t-shirts they wear, as well as the colorful chants and banners they put out.
The official supporter club of the California Victory is the California Victory Supporters Association [CVSA]. With a need for more community support, many 1906 supporters converged with the California Victory front office members at The Pig & Whistle. It was here that the California Victory Supporters Association [CVSA] was formed. The CVSA immediately got itself organized for goals it wanted to achieve. By selling handmade goods, it managed to create its wide fan base for the California Victory.
