Remaining an independent team in its initial years, the Hornets became affiliated with Minnesota Twins in 1937 for thirty five years. It was in 1972 when the Twins dropped their affiliation with the Hornets, that the minor league team changed its name to Charlotte Twins. Another name change was seen four years later after the baseball team became affiliated with Asheville Orioles. It wasn't until 1976 that the minor league franchise became Charlotte Knights, which to date remains the name of the team. Throughout its history the team has bagged 4 League titles and 3 Division wins.

In the upcoming series of games, the Knights will be seen supporting the colors silver, black, gold and white. Owned by Bill Allen and Don Beaver, the Charlotte based franchise is managed by Joel Skinner and Dan Rajkowski. Its current league major affiliation is with Chicago White Sox.
