The team took the football field once again in 1917 and almost two years later in 1919 the team decided to merge up with another football club called Turnverein Germania 1889. Following the merger, the newly formed team was named VfTuR M.Gladbach. As a newly formed franchise, the first ever major achievement came to the club following its win against Kolner BC to win the final of Westdeutschen Meisterschaft. The merger, however, lasted only for two years.
 
Few weeks after Borussia Monchengladbach claimed a win in West German Cup against 1.FC Koln, they went on to claim their first ever national championship after defeating Karlsruher SC in the finals of DFB-Pokal. Around the time when the Bundesliga was formed in 1963, the team played in second Tier of Regionalliga West, because the records of their previous decades weren't up to the mark. Borussia Monchengladbach didn't enjoy the taste of playing in the Bundesliga up until 1965. Around that time the team went into bitter rivalry with Bayern Munich, as they fought for the regional supremacy around that time.
 
Over the next few decades, the financial condition of the team depreciated a lot which made it sell many of its key players. Quite recently with the construction of its new state of the art facility, Borussia intends to improve its financial situation immensely.
