Avp Volleyball
Leonard Armato founded The Association of Volleyball Professionals or AVP, in 1983. The following year, American beach Volleyball men's tour was started by the AVP. From 1984 till late 80's, the tour attained massive growth.
One of the vital reasons for such a growth on the part of tour was the promotion of the sport led by some of the finest players of the game including, Randy Stoklos, Mike Dodd, Sinjin Smith and Tim Hovland.
The growth of the tour was further glorified from early till mid 90's; hence the purse was further increased as well, after the tour got its sponsors from the corporate sector.
Due that era, the teams of Karch Kiraly and Kent Steffes completely dominated the event. WPVA tour was also organized by the association, which held the women's volleyball competitions.
The tour had its major downfall when it went bankrupt in 1998, after the withdrawal of several corporate sponsors of the event in 1997, which led the tour to the financial crisis.
With an aim of re-establishing the Association of Volleyball Professionals, Leonard Armato made his comeback in 2001, which was followed by the reunion of both the men's and women's beach volleyball tours.
After its comeback Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) became the center of all the major beach volleyball events that are held nationwide. FIVB is the international counterpart to the AVP.
The beach volleyball tours organized by AVP are broadcasted on networks such as Versus and NBC. Presently the AVP tour is being sponsored by Crocs.
On the 2005 AVP tour, from the men's side top player were Jake Gibb and Stein Metzger, while from the women's side the top players included Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings.
The following year the top players from the men's side, on the tour, included Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser, while the top players from the women's side included Kerri Walsh-Jennings and Misty May-Treanor.
The top rivals on the same year included Mike Lambert and Stein Metzger from the men's side and Rachel Wacholder and Elaine Youngs from the women's side.
Since the day of its foundation, AVP incorporates best pro men's and women's beach volleyball players from all across the globe. Year after year AVP tour provides its viewers with an intense competition amongst highly skilled players, surrounded by the beach party.
Every year, AVP tour attracts massive numbers of fans, and this year's expectation for fans exceeds the count of 1 million. Leonard Armato along with his company Management Plus, revamped the AVP on May 31, 2001 and made an historic move of uniting both men's and women's professional beach volleyball under one organization.
Presently AVP tour is the only pro beach volleyball tour that is held in United States. AVO also maintains its cooperative relationship with the Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB), along with USA Volleyball.
The following year, in 2002, AVPCares was also founded by Leonard Armato, which serves as the charitable entity benefiting the community. In 2006, AVPCares also held several fundraising and awareness campaigns.
