The Austin Peay Governors is the athletics program of the Austin Peay State University, located in Clarksville, Tennessee. Its most prominent team is the men’s basketball team that has gained the spotlight for its outstanding performance on the field so much so that many fans of college basketball have started booking Austin Peay Governors tickets for their upcoming games well in advance. The Austin Peay Governors men’s basketball team has also won Conference Championships, four in total. The first two were won in 1987 and 1996 whereas the last two were won in 2003 and 2008. They have also been the Conference regular season champions a record eight times. The first such championship was won in 1973 followed by one immediately in 1974. The team again became the champion in 1977 and 1997. After the new millennium, they reigned as regular season champions in their conference in 2003, 2004, 2007 and lastly, in 2008.

With a bright future ahead of them, the Austin Peay Governors men’s basketball is already recognized as a team to be reckoned with in their conference and the entire NCAA Division I in so far as men’s basketball is concerned. Their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament earned them a position in the Sweet Sixteen, ranking them as one of the top sixteen men’s basketball teams in the US. They have also appeared in not one but two National Invitation Tournaments, with a winning result during their first appearance in 2004 against the Belmont Bruins of the Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee.
