The first time this annual convention was held was in 2010 at the Holiday Inn. Becoming the first largest comic book centered event, the event turned out to be a huge success with over 900 visitors. Not only this, it was even featured on, "Nightline" on ABC. The convention included several comic creators, the talented writer Ron Marz and artists like Mike DeCarlo, Frank McLaughlin and Jerry Ordway. Even Dick Giordano had planned to make an appearance on the event but he passed away just a few weeks before it. The convention also took up the noble charge of raising funds for the non-profit charity, "Tomy Fund" for the benefit of the Yale-New Haven Hospital.
The next year, Comiconn took place at a much bigger venue, the Stamford Plaza Hotel. Held on August 27th 2011, famous people like Anthony Forrest, Michael Golden and Matt Busch marked their entry at the event. From spectacular artists to phenomenal comic book writers, the event had it all. Scheduled to be featured on CNN channel, the plan could not be implemented due to a hurricane in the East Coast of the United States. However, in spite of this, 1500 people were able to attend the convention.
It was in 2012 that the show was officially established by the name of "Connecticut Comiconn", marking its association with the home state. Comic book creators like Peter David, Joe Kelly and artists like Chris Giarrusso, Cliff Galbraith and Billy Tucci were the prominent attendees to this year's convention. Not only this, it featured stormtroopers, Star War characters as well as cosplayers from "501st Conn Squad and CT Jedi". There was a duel between Deejay Wigmaster and the Dark Lord of the Smith held as well. Hasbro, Lucasfilm and Robot Chhocken even donated prizes and Stan Lee's signed posters were also put up for sale.
In 2013, the producers of the event came up with something new: a costume contest was held for adults and children as well as an arm-wrestling contest between Wigmaster and the "Man of Steel", along with a trivia contest. These contests added a new dimension to this convention, as the programs enthralled people of all age groups. Moreover, it also featured the R2-D2 Builders Dana Power, 1966 Batcycle as well as 1966 Batmobile.
This time, the organizers are thrilled to bring their heroes to life for their countless fans.
