Zildjian Drummers Achievement Awards are rare awards because of the format they follow. Unlike many other awards that happen on annual basis. The Drummers Achievement Award is held once in a while and each time it honors the people who have taken the Music Industry to great heights by contributing their drumming skills and musical genesis.
The event is a brainchild and proud product of Avedis Zildjian Company which is the most distinguished name in drumming industry. This years awards are sponsored by Rhythm Magazine UK and Yamaha Music UK and are expected in early December.
The Zildjian Drummers Achievement Awards have a long history of giving tribute to the musical legends of all times. Since its inception in 1998, only two award ceremonies have happened till yet, but they were quite unique and unforgettable.
The Zildjian administration put up great shows both the time and created an impressive collage of yesteryears artists and new age musicians. Considered as one of the oldest and longest running family businesses in the world, Zildjian has created these awards to recognize the talent of those who generally do not grab as much limelight that they deserve. These are the hardworking drummers of the music industry that provide us some really interesting music pieces.
The Zildjian Drummers Achievement Awards were first held on the occasion of 375th anniversary of Avedis Zildjian Company. Held at Berklee Performance center in Boston, MA in September 1998, the awards honored those individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the art of drum set playing and to music itself.
With that, the awards also initiated the tradition of honoring legendary musicians, a tradition that they still follow quite successfully. It also created scholarships on the mane of musicians it honored at the Berklee College Of Music.
In the first Zildjian Drummers Achievement Awards, musicians like Louie Bellson, Roy Haynes, Elvin Jones, and Max Roach were honored. It was a star-studded night and the big wings of the music industry graced the occasion.
Also in attendance were some of the worlds greatest drummers including Simon Phillips, Steve White and Keith Carlock besides many others. The high point of the event was the mind blowing hosting of Bill Cosby along with great performances by Terri Lyne Carrington, Peter Erskine, Steve Gadd and Marvin Smitty Smith.
In the year 2003, The Zildjian Company returned with the second American Drummers Achievement Awards. Held on September 13, 2003 at a Berklee Performance Center in Boston, the event proved even the bigger hit than the first one as it was sold-out months before the awards night.
This years awards were also hosted by notable entertainer and drummer Bill Cosbys candid interaction with the audience lighted up the whole night. This time, the awards honored drumming legend Steve Gadd with a special tribute to Armand Zildjian who passed a year before this the second Zildjian American Drummers Achievement Awards.
In its second run, the awards were more beautifully organized than before. The awards night was filled by full exciting musical performances that include an all-star Los Angeles based band including Vinnie Colaiuta and Rick Marotta on Drums, Mike Landau on Guitar, Jimmy Johnson on Bass, Larry Goldings on Keyboards and special guest appearances by Will Lee and Tom Scott.
The night proved to be one of the most memorable nights at the Berklee Performance Center in its long and prestigious history. It was a celebration of the musical passion that has been inspiring and empowering percussionists the world over for generations. Of course, the icing on the cake was Bill Cosbys impeccable comedic timing that kept the show entertaining throughout its run.
Now after the two wonderful additions of musical celebrations, Zildjian Drummers Achievement Awards are coming back to acknowledge the remarkable contribution that drumming has made to contemporary music.
This time the awards will be held at Londons Shepherds Bush Empire on December 7, 2008. Ginger Baker is this years chosen drumming legend who will be honored for his great contributions to the world of music.
The awards will be much bigger and opulent than previous ones, but we dont want to spoil the suspense by telling you all the details. So if you really want to experience a beautiful night with all the legends of the music world under one roof, then check out this years Zildjian Drummers Achievement Awards.
