Wonderland premiered on stage in 2009 in Tampa, Florida. The well-known music composer, Frank Wildhorn has provided the score for the musical. The book and lyrics are penned by Jack Murphy, a renowned writer who is critically acclaimed. Previously, Frank and Murphy have worked on a number of theatrical projects such as Waiting for the Moon, The Civil War and The Count of Monte Cristo. Wildhorn has been present and working actively since the late 70s. He is known for writing the internationally hit song, "Where Do Broken Hearts Go?" for the singer Whitney Houston. His musical Jekyll & Hyde also ran on Broadway for almost four years. By showcasing his remarkable talents through Wonderland, Frank Wildhorn has further cemented his place in the entertainment world.
The musical was presented at The David A. Straz Jr. Center for the Performing Arts and entertained a huge number of audiences at the first show. Statistically, the production played to 96% capacity. Following its success in Tampa City, Wonderland moved to the Alley Theater in Houston. Again, thousands of people loved the musical and wanted to see the production repeatedly. According to a report by Straz Center, "the estimated local economic impact was more than $8.1 million." From time to time, songs, set designs, scene structures and characters have been changed to bring in freshness to Wonderland. In 2011, the musical finally premiered on Broadway at the Marquis Theater with a new cast featuring actors such as Darren Ritchie, Janet Dacal, Jose Llana and Kate Shindle. After 31 previews and 33 performances, the show finally ended its run.
Wonderland: A New Alice has earned immense popularity nationwide because of its fresh, innovative and catchy music numbers. Some of the prominent ones include, "Mad Tea Party," "Off with Their Heads," "The Worst Day of My Life" and "I Am My Own Invention." Each song tells a story. The lyrics, compositions and the way they've been presented always receive a standing ovation. A well-known critic from The New York Times stated that, "the musical is peppily inspirational and the book displays flashes of fresh humor with a convoluted storyline."

St. Petersburg Times referred to Wonderland as "a visual feast, with dazzling costumes, marvelously funky dance and a flashy, high-tech production design."
