Tony Orlando was born as Michael Anthony Orlando Cassavitis in 1944. His birth place is New York City. He spend most of his childhood in Manhattan but soon moved to New Jersey. He initially formed a group called The Five Gents while he was still in his teens. Orlando was noticed for the first time when he released hit singles like "Halfway to Paradise" and "Bless You". Despite getting moderate success Orlando took up a job at Columbia music in the late sixties and stopped pursuing a career in music. His passion was rekindled when he recorded a single "Candida" in 1970. This single was an instant hit charting not on US Billboard but in other countries like Norway, Canada and Belgium and Germany. This song was sung by Orlando with Toni Wine and Linda November as backing singers. This was the start of the famous pop singing group Tony Orlando and Dawn. This group was signed with Bell and Elektra Records and was very popular during the 70's.
 
Tony Orlando and Dawn became extremely popular and released fourteen studio albums including Dawn Featuring Tony Orlando, Dawn's New Ragtime Follies, Candid & Knock Three Times, Tony Orlando and Dawn 11, He Don't Love You Like I Do, To Be With You and The World of Tony Orlando & Dawn. Tony Orlando and Dawn was disbanded in 1977 as all members wanted to pursue their own music careers. Orlando also released a few solo albums like Bless You, Make Believe, I Got Rhythm, Livin' For the Music and To Be With You. Solo hit singles of Orlando are "I Was a Boy", "Don't Let Go", "Sweets For My Sweet" and "Happy Times Are Here to Stay". Tony is not just a singer but also a good actor he has appeared in mainstream movies like That's My Boy, Waking Up in Reno and Cosby Show. He also appeared on MADtv and was a guest at the Christmas bonanza organized by comedian Larry the Cable Guy. For almost three decades Orlando was the host of the MDA Labor Day Telethon before leaving the show in 2011.
