Tom Chapin talks about his music as not a traditional music, but comes from tradition. He idealises people from the musical who not only had written real songs but had also sung the songs themselves for people of all ages.

Born in the mid 1940s in a family that encouraged creativity, his father was a jazz drummer who performed with renowned bandleaders at the time of his career. One of Tom's grandfathers was a painter, and the other was a philosopher. He earned his bachelors degree in History from a college in upstate New York.

At the age of 12, Tom along with his two brothers formed their own folk band. The band performed at a nightclub for numerous years before releasing their first album in the 1960s and it was in the 60s again where he received his first break through as a singer. While mastering his singing abilities, he discovered that he also had the ability of writing songs as well.

Chapin also got a chance to display his art of music while hosting for a music programme. His brother had the opportunity to write the drafts of all the songs leaving Tom to write the final versions. For Tom it was a real good experience. The 1970s, this realization had struck him that this was the true Tom Chapin the musician of all times. He not only learnt the art of music alone in fact he kept practicing the music to perfection. He formed his own band with his brother and together the band released its firs album in 1973.

In 1981, Tom arranged the music of the musical show once again with the assistance of his brother. And it was in the early 1980s that Tom Chapin planned to actively pursue his solo career releasing numerous albums for children. Keeping the children psyche in mind, he wrote more and more songs for this class.
