The Spinto Band
An indie pop group, The Spinto Band has a grand talent for constructing a pop tune. The group is primarily noted for its electronica-tinged tunes nod to Pavement, Of Montreal, and Field Music etc.
Spearheaded by Nick Krill, The Spinto Band was formed in 1996. Despite having toured with the music icons like Arctic Monkeys and appeared on Jools Holland, Cool People still like The Spinto Bands lads.
Above and beyond, the members of the band have really proved to throw the typical indie cheese-rock down. Utilizing the indie-pop sensibilities of the Flaming Lips and Pavement, the Spinto Bands songs have a tendency to send you into an over-the-rainbow blissful state.
The unusual bunch of fellas hail from Delaware, USA. Prior to joining the band, Nick Krill came across some song lyrics written by his late grandfather, Roy Spinto. During that time, the band already had six members and named Free Beer. When Nick joined Free Beer, the group changed its name to the Spinto Band.
The bands original lineup included Jon Eaton, Albert Birney, brothers Thomas and Sam Hughes, and brothers Jeffrey and Joey Hobson. With ages ranging from 19 to 22, these kids put out an album.
Created on weekends away from school, the album afforded good status. Albert Birney left the group in order to go to art school, later returned though. Currently, he is heading the artwork and video arm of the band.
Over the course of eight year, the Spinto Band self-released seven albums. The Band slaved away for years with no recognition and to break to stardom was something of an afterthought. With constant touring and release of albums, their music started breaking the doors down for them.
The Sprinto Band broke to prominence mainly for their songs which have a rich and complex sound. Around the time, when band was recording for their eighth album, they were picked up by Bar-None. Nice and Nicely Done came out in 2005 to positive reviews from both music lovers and critics. Nice and Nicely Done generated quite a bit of critical buzz. It was picked up for re-release on Virgin UK the next year.
A band of brothers, friends and by the sounds of things, soul mates came up with beautifully crafted album, Nice and Nicely Done in 2005. A debut album featuring all the elements, the album turned out to be a great success for one of the latest new talents coming from America.
The album had 10 whopping pop songs; most popular ones were Brown Boxes, Oh Mandy and many. In comparison to some more established acts like Weezer and Pavement, which have been ignorant for years, Nice and Nicely Done provided Indie Rock lovers with a new hope. The lyrics of Brown Boxes unearth the difficulties of a breakup when a couple lives together.
Although Nice and Nicely Done beefed of preparation, efforts and consistency, yet it played and related just as lazy as a mature, elderly house cat that just cant bring itself to leave the house anymore.
The album spawned a hit single Oh Mandy that catapulted The Spinto Band out of indie obscurity and onto the big stages and screens. After the release of the album, the following three years saw the Spinto Band making high profile appearances on the Jools Holland Show and at the SXSW festival. Moreover, the band also released several singles on EMI and Virgin.
With the lineup comprising of Jon Eaton, Nick Krill, Thomas Hughes, Jeffrey Hobson, Sam Hughes and Joey Hobson, the band began working on their ninth-full length album.
Fierce Panda and Park the Van records issued the Spinto Bands Moonwink in the fall of 2008. The album is produced by Dave Trumfio and mixed by Tchad Blake, and is sure to build on the promise of 2005s Oh Mandy. With rich, textured guitars, and multiple-part vocal harmonies, the Spinto Bands repertoire is a whirlpool of indie perfection.
Currently, they are teamed up with Nashville producing duo, Robin Eaton and Lij. The boys began working on their following album which was released in May through Bar-None Records.
In this album, the Spinto Bands sound displays a finesse that belies their youth. The album sounds quirky, energetic, radiant, and aptly engaging.
If you like music then these six lads can give you what you are looking for: guitars, drums, singing etc. Besides the release of albums, The Spinto Band has performed with such acts as the Trachtenberg Family Slideshow Players, and Of Montreal.
