The term Goat Rodeo, by definition, is an aviation term that describes a chaotic situation where a number of things will have to go right for the event to work. The term is a reference to the challenging and unusual blend of classical and bluegrass music in the Goat Rodeo Show. The group masterfully brings together four American virtuosos who embrace tradition and style going beyond limits of classical music. The shows are landmark performance of these four greatest instrumentalists, each of whom is a renowned superstar in his own capacity. When they come together, a remarkable and spectacular cross-genre project stems out.
One of the most talented and best-known Cellists of modern age, Yo-Yo Ma is winner of fifteen Grammy Awards and multiple Grammy nominations and has released over 75 albums to critical acclaim. He has performed for eight American Presidents and has been transforming many lives with power of music. Renowned for more eclectic repertoire than most of classical musicians and a smoothly rich tone with considerable virtuosity, he has given memorable live performances and released several recordings. With his multi-faceted career, personal desire for growth and renewal, performances of cello repertoire and his exploration of other cultural forms, he strives to stimulate the imagination of audiences. His other awards include National medal of Arts in 2001, Sonning Prize in 2006, World Economic Forum's Crystal Award in 2008, Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2010 and many more.
At the age of twenty-three, Chris Thile has established himself as one of the finest mandolin players in the world. Mostly renowned as member of newgrass wunderkind group Nickel Creek, he has released five solo albums showcasing his prodigious picking skills and eclectic tastes. He is 2012 McArthur fellow and winner of three Grammy and two IBMA Awards.
Unique and masterful instrumentalist Edger Meyer mesmerizes his audiences as an innovative composer and vibrant performer. Hailed as "the most remarkable virtuoso in the relatively unchronicled history of his instrument" his techniques, musicianship and compositions are greatly appreciated. Having done many fruitful collaborations, performances at famous music festivals, winning numerous music competitions and with the release of several albums, he has carved out a remarkable and unique niche in musical world with his classical, jazz and blugrass styles.
The greatest and the most creative bluegrass fiddle player ever, Stuart Duncan improvises perfectly new ideas with ideal tone and intonation. Stuart has performed on thousands of recording sessions and is a winner of two Grammys for best Bluegrass Album, 1999's Academy of Country Music award and seven consecutive International Bluegrass Music Association's "Fiddle Player of the Year" Award.
These four great musicians also released a collaborative album in 2011 titled The Goat Rodeo Sessions. The album won two Grammy Awards for Best Folk Album and Best Engineered Album in 2013.
