The Classics Band
The Classics are a nine-piece Rock n Roll, Rhythm & Blues band based in Edmonton, Alberta. It is undoubtedly one of the finest groups Canada has ever produced. It is a family-friendly band with horns that performs the top hits.
At the Hop, Blue Moon, Chantilly Lace, Great Balls of Fire, Hound Dog, Jailhouse Rock, Locomotion, The Twist, Pretty Woman, Rock Around the Clock, Runaround Sue, Splish Splash, Twilight Time and Unchained Melody.
The Classics Band performs the hit songs the way they were originally recorded. Very enjoyable! With their roots firmly planted in early rock and roll and R&B, the members of The Classics were all part of the busy teen and nightclub scene, entertaining Canadian audiences as early as 1959. Prior to getting together, band members honed their talents with other well-known groups.
A partial list includes: Any Wonder, Back Street Players, Better Days, Big Shot, Cold Feet, Colored Rain, Countdown, The Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, The Embers, Fatback, Hidden Agenda, Hub Cigar Store, The Knights, The Lords, The Morning After, The Nomads (1964-1968), The Nomads (1989-2006), The Ookpiks, The Original Cast, Privilege, The Satellites, The Saratogas, Sea Breeze, The Sons of Adam, The Tommy Banks Orchestra and the Trocadero Big Band.
Today, these highly skilled musicians and singers send the energy off the stage at clubs, school gymnasiums, and beach pavilions, just like in the old days when the music was still brand new. Over the years The Classics have shared the stage with such internationally acclaimed artists as: The Guess Who, Roy Orbison, Tommy Banks, Bobby Curtola, The Fireballs, P.J. Perry, The Pozo Seco Singers (with Don Williams), and David Clayton Thomas (later of Blood, Sweat and Tears), to name a few.
They often travel hundreds of miles from home to put on their memorable, high-energy performances. Ever in demand, this unique ensemble is going stronger than ever, and usually has gigs planned well in advance. If you have already experienced their shows, youll know just how estatic and excited the crowds are whenever The Classics are on stage. If you need a fantastic group for your next gathering or celebration... this is the band for your venue!
The Classics Band is an excellent choice for Weddings, Concerts, Dances, Christmas Parties, Fundraisers or any other occasion that demands professional, quality musical entertainment. The Classics Band brings you the finest in LIVE entertainment. Re-creating the exciting music of the 30s through the 90s From jazzy dinner music such as Moonglow and At Last to songs by Chicago and Bonnie Raitt and everything in between. So put on your dancing shoes and get ready to boogie.
In response to popular demand, this nine-piece group keeps a busy entertainment schedule. They are right at home playing clubs, private parties, casinos, corporate functions, soft seat theatres and a few venues that arent perhaps as typical, including several three week tours to Phoenix, Arizona.
In 1998, members of the band appeared on stage with over fifty members of The Edmonton Symphony Orchestra for two sold-out nights of Rhythm and Blues at Edmontons world-class Winspear Centre.Few months later at another sold-out performance in the Jack Singer Concert Hall with The Calgary Philharmonic. On both occasions, the band had the patrons dancing in the aisles.
They re-visited the Winspear Centre for another successful evening with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra in the summer of 2004. One only needs to catch this group playing for hundreds of fans at an open-air venue such as the band-shell in Edmontons Hawrelak Park or Winston Churchill Square during The Taste of Edmonton to realize that the bands performance has an irresistible appeal to audiences of all ages and folks from all musical backgrounds.
Over the years the boys have opened for, or shared the stage with internationally acclaimed artists such as Tommy Banks, Bobby Curtola, The Fireballs, The Guess Who, Roy Orbison, P.J. Perry, The Pozo Seco Singers (Don Williams), and David Clayton Thomas (later of Blood, Sweat and Tears) to name but a few.
In addition to having years of experience playing for live audiences, each individual band member is a seasoned radio/television performer and studio musician.
Today, after closing fifty years, the fire is still there and the musicianship has only gotten better. The material these gentlemen play is rock and roll and rhythm and blues, and they make the energy roll off todays stages just like it did in the clubs, the school gymnasiums and the beach halls when rock and roll was new.
