Bands like Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin introduced metal to the world. Their music however took heavy influence from Blues. When Judas Priest and Motorhead came along they separated their music from blues and created a more pure and refined form of metal. The Summer Slaughter Tour is held every year and death metal bands from the United States and the rest of the world perform in it. The tour started in the year 2007 and was held in the US but then it moved on to Europe and today it has been to New Zealand and Australia as well. It is one of the fastest growing tours in the world and with every passing year it caters to a bigger and more diverse audience than the year before.
 
The tour has been headlined by various bands during the years. The year 2007 saw 'Necrophagist' headlining the Summer Slaughter Tour. The 2008 Summer Slaughter was lead by The Black Dahlia Murder. The 2008 tour in Canada was headlined by Necrophagist and the European Leg was headed by 'Suicide Silence'. The 2009 tour saw Necrophagist headlining the Australia and New Zealand tour and US tour was headlined by Necrophagist alongside Suffocation. 'Decapitated' took the lead for the 2010 tour. Every year there are over twenty supporting bands as well. These bands make use of the tour to gain fame and popularity and to get some experience in performing live.
 
This year there are about thirty bands performing but The Summer Slaughter Tour 2011 will be headlined by 'The Black Dahlia Murder' and 'Whitechapel'.
 
The Black Dahlia Murder, as mentioned, has headlined this tour previously. The band was formed in the year 2001 and come from Waterford, Michigan. Elizabeth Short was murdered in the year 1947 and her murder was never solved. It was referred to as Black Dahlia and the band named themselves after that. The band is composed of Trevor Strnad as the vocalist, BrianEschbach and Ryan Knight as the guitarists, Ryan Williams as the bassist and Shannon Lucas as the drummer. Their latest studio album 'Ritual' made it to thirty-one on the Billboard 200, breaking their own record of 'Deflorate' in 2009, which peaked at forty-three.
 
'Whitechapel' will be headlining the tour for the first time ever. They are an American band formed in 2006 in Knoxville, Tennessee. They have released three albums and five videos so far after signing with Metal Blade Records. The band takes its name from a district in the inner-city of London called Whitechapel. The band has a unique style of playing where three guitarists stand on stage and play specific parts of the overall performance. They are a rising star Whitechapel and they will be turning quite a lot of heads at the Summer Slaughter Tour.
