The Summer Slaughter Tour is an annual metal music evet which in the past used to be arranged within the United States alone. However since 2009 it has been taken to Europe, New Zealand and Australia as well. The event was arranged for the first time in 2008 between the dates of 20 and 28 of July and featured a separate Canadian portion of performances. In the March of 2008, the tour was taken to Australia and was held at five different cities there. The same year it had one date in Auckland, New Zealand as well. The headliner act of The Summer Slaughter Tour is the mathcore band The Dillinger Escape Plan belonging to New Jersey. The band was formed in 1997 and currently consists of Greg Puciato, Ben Weinman and Ben Liam Wilson. The name of the band comes from a convicted bank robber named John Dillinger. Before releasing their debut album titled "Calculating Infinity," the band released a three songs EP in 1999 for the sake of building anticipation among the fans. The album was a success. Till day, they have released five studio albums, latest being "One of Us Is the Killer" which came out in 2013.
 
Apart from the main act, The Summer Slaughter Tour is going to feature a number of other metal acts this year. These are, Periphery, Animals as Leaders, Norma Jean, Revocation, the Ocean, Cattle Decapitation and several others. Animals as Leaders is a progressive rock instrumental band which was formed in 2007 by the guitarist Tosin Abasi. The band's lineup also includes Matt Garstka on drums and Javier Reyes the guitarist. The band has released only two albums so far, their first one was self titled and the latest "Weightless" was released in 2011.
 
Periphery is a metal band belonging to Maryland. The band was formed in 2005 and changed its lineup several times over the years. The band has been popular mainly for its progressive, heavy, modern tone that includes soaring melodies mixed with polyrhythmic patterns. The band is made up of three guitarists, Jake Bowen, Misha Mansoor and Mark Holcomb, drummer Matt Halpern, vocalist Spencer Sotelo and Adam Getgood on bass. Their self titled debut album was released in 2010 and was followed by "Periphery II: This Time Its Personal" in 2012.
 
Norma Jean, the metalcore band belonging to Georgia is going to perform in the Summer Slaughter Tour as well. The band was formed in 1997 by Chris Day, currently the only member of the band who has remained a part of it since the beginning. The lineup has changed over the years. The band has managed to release five studio albums. Norma Jean is also a nominee of a Grammy Award for "Best Recording Package" in 2006. The name of the band comes from the real name of the famous actress Marilyn Monroe.
 
Cattle Decapitation is a deathgrind band belonging to San Diego. The band was created in 1996 and has till day managed to release six studio albums. The lineup is made up of Josh Elmore, Travis Ryan, Derek Engemann and Dave McGraw. The band released its debut album "Ten Torments of the Damned" in 1996. Their 2002 album "To Serve Man" raised controversy within Germany because of its cover illustration, which was very graphic and violent. The band's latest album titled 'Monolith of Inhumanity' came out in 2012 through Metal Blade Records. Over the years the band toured with several famous metal bands.
