Sufjan Stevens was born in Detroit but later moved to Petoskey. He attended the Interlochen Arts Academy and graduated from the Harbor Light Christian School. He then went to the Hope College and got a master of fine arts degree from The New School in the New York City. A year later in 2006, Stevens released a five CD box set, 'Songs for Christmas' on which he collaborated with different people including minister Vito Aiuto.
After three years, Sufjan Stevens came out with his sixth studio album, 'The Age of Adz' which peaked at the number seven and one spot on the US Billboard 200 and the Independent Albums chart. It went on to feature on several "Best of 2010" lists including the ones by The New York Times, MTV and Paste.
Following the success of, 'The Age of Adz,' Sufjan released his seventh studio album, 'Carrie & Lowell' in 2015 which went straight to the number ten and six spots on the US Billboard 200 and the UK Albums charts respectively.
