Stone Sour
Stone Sour is a Grammy-nominated American melodic post-grunge/hard rock band. Corey Taylor and former drummer Joel Ekman founded the band. With influences from heavy metal music such as distorted guitars and stronger melodies not heard in standard alternative rock , the band successfully fuses alternative rock. Stone Sour currently consists of Corey Taylor who is a leading vocalist and plays guitar; James Root plays guitar; Backing is a vocalist, Josh Rand is a guitarist;Shawn Economaki plays Bass and Roy Mayorga is the drummer.
Band history
Corey Taylor and drummer Joel Ekman originally formed the band Stone Sour in 1992. Shawn Economaki, joined shortly after, and filled in as the bass player. He was Ekman's long time friend. Various different guitarists were used by the band to play in clubs and bars. Mostly each guitarist filled the position for just one show.
During this time, two demo tapes were recorded by Stone Sour in 1992 and 1994. Shortly after, In 1995, James Root joined the band. This led to the completion of the group. In 1996, the band recorded another demo tape. The songs from this demo would later be used in 2002 on their self titled debut album, Stone Sour.
The band was named after an alcoholic drink. The drink was a mixture of one part whiskey, one part orange juice, with a splash of sour mix.
The band was disbanded in 1997 when Taylor left to join Slipknot. A year later, Root also joined the band . The position of their stage manager was filled by Economaki. Ekman formed a family while staying in Des Moines.
Stone Sour produced a demo tape in 2000. Later that year the group recorded an album under the name SuperEgo called Click Here to Exit. This album could not be released. However, It was successful in earning them a record contract with RoadRunner.
The band had numerous name changes during this time. These included ProjectX and Closure. Since the members were producing music that was true to their original style, Stone Sour was decided to be the only one real option.
The self-titled first album of the band was recorded in Cedar Falls, Iowa. It released on 31 July 2002 in the UK, and on 1 August in the US. Aided by the song Bother which was featured on the Spider-Man soundtrack, the album went on to become Gold. The band enjoyed this grand success. They toured for six months together. After that, Taylor and Root went back to join Slipknot for another album and tour.
For the second album, titled Come What(ever) May, Stone Sour finished recording at least 18 tracks in Dave Grohl's recording studio, Studio 606, on 4 April. Tthe band released a video for the song Reborn on 29 April which shows the band performing in a studio.
On the Family Values Tour 2006, the band went on to tour with KoRn, Deftones, Flyleaf, Dir en grey, Deadsy, 10 Years, Bury Your Dead, Bullets And Octane, and Walls of Jericho. During this tour, Corey performed Freak On A Leash with KoRn several times, which can be heard on the soundtrack to the tour.
Stone Sour officially joined the third Music as a Weapon Tour alongside Disturbed, Flyleaf and Nonpoint on September 14, 2006. They supported Evanescence on their Canadian tour of January 2007. The band also headlined a UK & European tour. Bullets and Octane supported them during these European tours. For the J?germeister Music Tour, Stone Sour were joined by Lacuna Coil and Shadows Fall In Spring 2007.During March, A second UK tour of four dates was also played including London, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow.
