Only recently the show explored the theme of Inner Space that would guide the visitors on an adventurous spiritual journey through seven levels of enlightenment; a celebration of the now as opposed to the past or future so that people can share a collective consciousness of their inner beauty. Such wondrous themes with their own specific music and dance have made Sensation tickets a sought-after and widely anticipated treat among electronic dance music fans.
Sensation was initially organized by ID&T and ran exclusively in Amsterdam's Arena A for five years till 2005, by which time it was decided that the event be taken to other places. The very first show held in 2000, was not selling out so that the media made announcements about it being sold out to gained interest, which worked out to attracting as many as twenty-thousand people. In this show the DJs used Amsterdam Arena's one side only while later editions brought the stage in the middle for a rapidly expanding audience. This was the only edition to not have a dress code since all of the subsequent versions have required certain colors.
The earliest shows were comprised of a single edition but later split into two different editions of Sensation White and Sensation Black, which were later shortened to simply Sensation and Black. The introduction of two separate performance concepts was to differentiate the feeling, music and vibe to focus and amplify themes that would otherwise not seem so powerful. While Black lays emphasis on darker music like Hardcore and Hardstyle, while the former takes on House music. Each year, the event releases a couple of doublediscs (White and Black) along with two singles termed Anthems.
In 2005, Sensation was organized in both Germany and Belgium and but the following year, ID&T began Sensation International, which would be an international inspired by the rather simplistic initial version seen in Amsterdam Arena. In its first few shows, it was more of a trance event that slowly transformed into a purely house event where all attendees must wear white while the venue itself in decorated in order to match. Famous DJs that have performed at the show include Dada Life, Martin Solveig, Rank 1, Tocadisco, Laidback Luke, Felix Da Housecat, Mason, Sander van Doom, Sebastian Ingrosso, Fedde Le Grand, Steve Angello, Sander Kleinenberg, Johan Gielen, Paul van Dyk, Marco V, Ferry Corsten, Erick Morillo, Erick E, David Guetta, Darren Emerson of Underworld, Andre Tannerberger, Swedish House Mafia, Armin van Buuren and Tiesto. Notable DJ's to appear at Black include the likes of Mauro Picotto, Yoji Biomehanika, Technoboy, Tommyknocker, The Prophet, DJ Zany, DJ Lady Dana, DJ Luna, Chris Liebing, Marcel Woods, Headhunterz, Angerfist, and Showtek.
To enforce the notion that this event is a House show, the theme Celebrate Life With House was created featuring performances by Swedish House Mafie, Chuckie, Ryan Marciano, Joris Voorm and Sunnery James. Since 2006 all editions of the event have sold within hours often selling all forty-five thousand tickets within that time. So if you want to be part of the groovy show get busy grabbing your Sensation tickets and get your whites out the cupboards and decide which to wear.
