Entering the world of comedy was not the first and only choice of Robert Klein who was in Bronx on February 8, 1942. After his graduation from Alfred University, he planned to study medicine but destiny took him to Yale Drama School from where he got the break in show business.
It happened as a result of audition for The Second City where Klein, along with Fred Willard, successfully improvised about two guys in a nightclub and became the member of the troupe.
From 1965 onwards, Klein established his base in Chicago as an experienced member of Second City. When he returned to New York, Mike Nichols offered him a role in Broadway musical, Apple Tree.
Apple Tree proved a successful venture for him and he got other Broadway shows like Morning, Noon and Night and New Faces of 1968. On the other hand, Klein kept his stand-up comedy routine going and performed at the original Improvisation club.
The real break for Robert Klein came from television in 1970 in the form of CBS show Comedy Tonight. His observational comedy and extensive routines about the Watergate scandal made him quite popular among the masses.
His stand-ups for HBO comedy specials also made him a popular household name and he even released a DVD in 2007 compiling eight of his live HBO specials as Robert Klein: The HBO specials 1975-2005.
Not to forget his two time anchoring on Saturday Night Live and his regular appearances on The Tonight Show, Late Show with David Letterman and Late Night with Conan OBrien.
Broadway Acting assignment went side by side and Robert Klien closed the decade with a Tony Award nomination for Best Actor and Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for his hit musical They're Playing Our Song.
He also won Obie Award and The Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Performance in theatrical The Sisters Rosensweig. His profile is also filled with hit television series The New Twilight Zone, Frasier, Murder She Wrote, Midnight Caller, Law and Order, Mad About You and The King of Queens.

His first two albums, Child of the Fifties and Mind Over Matter, got Grammy Nominations. Other albums like New Teeth and Lets Not Make Love also became huge hits and widened his fan base to a considerable level.
