The Talented Artist

After finishing his studies at the University of London, Ricky Gervais began his career in the entertainment business as the frontman of a band called Seona Dancing. It gave the mediocre hit song More to Lose back in 1985. In 1996 Gervaiz joined the radio station XFM as the host of a program. During the 1990s, the comedian contributed various comedy sketches to popular BBC shows such as Golden Years and Bruiser. He then began doing a regular role on the show The 11 O' Clock Show and in the year 2000 was briefly seen as the host of his talk show called Meet Ricky Gervais.

In July of 2001, a comedy series titled The Office debuted on BBC -a collaboration between Gervais and Merchant. The documentary style series is based on situational comedy where a group of workers go through various misadventures during their time in a fictional paper company. The show ran for 12 episodes across two seasons and returned for a Christmas special in 2003. Despite the short run, it was a big hit and received favorable reviews from the critics. It also won a number of BAFTA, British Comedy Awards and Golden Globes.

Following the success of The Office, Ricky Gervais became a regular stand-up comic. In the year 2004, he published a book called Flanimals. It was the first in his series of children cooks. He returned to TV with Extras which was yet collaboration with Merchant. His terrific performance received a positive response from fans and critics alike. In fact it even won him an Emmy for the 'Best Actor in a Comedy Series' in 2007.

In 2005-06 Ricky Gervais began hosting The Ricky Gervais Show - a podcast in which Merchant and he engaged in casual banter. The weekly show was a huge hit. Just one episode of the show recorded downloaded by over 500,000 listeners.

In the year 2011 Gervais once gain teamed up with Merchant to launch their second mockumentary together. Titled Life's Too Short, it starred Warwick Ashley Davis. He was born with a rare kind of dwarfism and played his own fictionalized version on the show. Gervais and Merchant on the other hand played supporting roles.

Another one of Ricky Gervais' contributions is the show Special Correspondents. Besides that, Gervais also directed, wrote, produced and starred in the mockumentary comedy film David Brent: Life on the Road.
