Indie rock Canada based group that was originally formed as a trio in 2007, consisting of Erin Passmore, Marshall Burns and Kristina Hedlund has announced its 2014 tour. Rah Rah will be performing at SAIT's The Gateway, in Calgary. The show is set to take place on February 27th, 2014. The Gateway is the only on-campus bar in SAIT, which makes it a good place for university students to meet. The venue is geared towards the life of students. It is one of the biggest college bars in Canada and a great place to see some of the happening bands perform. Previously, the band has toured extensively around North America and Europe. This time around, when the group announced its tour, fans went crazy after Rah Rah tickets.
Rah Rah that started as a trio was joined by three other members; Joel Passmore, Jeffrey Romanyk and Leif Thorseth. The ensemble came up with its full-length studio album Going Steady in 2008, and toured extensively in 2009 to promote it. Meanwhile, the band also started to work on the next record. Within no time, the group saw itself rising and the members' efforts paid off when it was named, "Best New Canadian Artist" and "Best Alternative New Artist" in the list of iTunes Best of 2009. Rah Rah performed at the Whistler Live! stage at the 2010 Paralympics Games and also took the stage at the Saskatchewan Pavilion. Rah Rah has been noted and admired for its energetic live shows.
After a series of live performances across North America, Rah Rah released its third EP The Poet's Dead with Montreal's Hidden Pony Records in 2012. In 2013, the record was long listed for the 2013 Polaris Music Prize. Lyrically, the album displays some of the group members' finest songwriting and is also their strongest step forward as a group. The record features songs like "I'm A Killer" and "First Kiss" among many others. The album finds Rah Rah at its most infectious and playful nature, poised for a worldwide breakout. By using the skills of producers Werner F. and Gus Van Go, their new tracks are brighter and more cheerful. According to the members this new record was much more polished than the earlier two. These songs discuss growing up, maturity and life as a rock and roll band member.
Evident from the past performances, a quality show is ensured. Many of the group's singles have been featured on Starbucks Pick of the Week and iTunes Single of the Week. Besides releasing three albums, Rah Rah has also performed with many notable acts like Mother Mother, Wintersleep, Said the Whale, Plants and Animals, Library Voices, Bedouin Soundclash, DD/MM/YYYY and Minus the Bear. Every time when the band announces its tours, Rah Rah tickets are among the most sought after. The band is highly praised for its efforts and Montreal Gazette called it, "Very accomplished despite their youth, Rah Rah play immense, poetic rock tunes."
In an interview, the group members cited Wilco, Regina, Saskatchewan, Warren McCall, Derek Hammers' Cat and The Roughriders as their major influences. The earlier songs of the group are deep and tuneful, featuring instruments like guitars and keyboards. The members keep changing their musical style and sound on every album and song, yet they pull it off quite well. The upcoming live concert is a must see event and fans that have already been to the previous concerts are looking forward to this one as well.
