Placido Domingo
Born on 21 January, 1941 Jose Placido Domingo Embil KBE or Placido Domingo is an internationally renowned operatic Tenor. He is better known for his singing performances, due to his strong and clear tone that is full of vitality throughout its range. Apart from being an Opera performer he is also the General Director of the Washington National Opera and the Los Angeles Opera.
Originally Domingo was born in Madrid, Spain, however due to Zarzuela Company that was ran by his family, he had to move to Mexico along with his Family. There in Mexico City Domingo started taking music lessons at the National Conservatory and soon in 1958 he made his entrance to the music scene as he started providing his back vocals for a band called Los Black Jeans. The following year he also made his stage acting debut as he got a minor role in Guadalajara at the Teatro Degollado. At the National Conservatory he learned piano and conducting. Domingo gave his first opera performance as he played the lead role in La Traviata. He later he became a part of Israel National opera in 1962, and played for 12 distinctive roles giving a total of 280 singing performances throughout his period of 2 and a half year that he spent being a part of Israel National Opera.
At the New York City Opera, he sang the lead role in the US premier of Ginastera's Don Rodrigo. A year later in 1967 he made his debut at Vienna State Opera. Metropolitan Opera saw Domingo's debut on 28 September, 1968 as he performed in Cilea's Adriana Lecouvreur. Also in 1968 he made his debut at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. The following year saw Domingo's debut at La Scala Opera and San Francisco Opera. Later he made his next debut at Covent Garden in 1971 and to date he is one of those singers who has performed in every major opera not only nationwide but also world wide.
Already well known for his Operatic Performances, Domingo wanted to make his mark in the music industry as well as he recorded and released a song titled Perhaps Love in 1981. It was basically a duet which he sand with John Denver. Later in 1987, he and Denver also won an Emmy award for their Duet.
Domingo is a huge advocate of Hear the World initiative, which is why he known for giving encouragement and special attention to those operatic toners in which he finds potential of being successful in future. For that he has also laid foundation to an important Operatic competition that welcomes young opera singers for around the globe.
Domingo also got a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1993. In the opening of 1990 World Cup in Rome, he along with Jose Carreras and Luciano Pavarotti performed altogether in a concert which they called a Three Tenor Concert. The main objective of the concert was to raise funds for Jose Carreras International Leukemia Foundation. Since 1990 Domingo performed a number of times at the openings of the World Cups including the world cups of 1994 in Los Angeles, 1998 in Paris, and 2002 in Yokohama. Domingo also made an appearance in 2006 World Cup final in Berlin, but this time he was accompanied by Jose Carreras and Luciano Pavarotti.
