Neko Case is an indie rock and alternative country singer and songwriter hailing from the state of Virginia. She is famous because of her solo career as well as being the member of The New Pornographers, a Canadian indie rock band. For a long time after starting her career, Neko performed under the name "Neko Case & Her Boyfriends". Most of the time, Neko performs herself composed material but has also recorded and performed cover songs of singers and bands such as Bob Dylan, Loretta Lynn, Hank Williams, Tom Waits, Scott Walker, Harry Nillson and The Queen. Neko Case started playing drums for different local bands when she was still in high school. These included The Weasels, The Propanes and Del Logs. Majority of these bands were local punk and two were country music "super bands". After graduating in Fine Arts, Neko left Canada to settle in Washington. However, before leaving she recorded some music which ended up in Mass Romantic, the first album from The New Pornographers. She successfully moved away from her country music image with her lead vocals in the song Letter from an Occupant.

Neko Case, along with the band released Mass Romantic in 2000, an album which brought the band unexpected success and fame. Although initially the purpose of the band was to be a side project, they eventually decided to go on a tour, which was followed by four more albums. Apart from her career with the band, Neko continued to collaborate with different Canadian artists such as Carolyn Mark and The Sadies.

Neko Case has a number of songs recorded of famous songwriters in Canada and included in her EP titled "Canadian Amp". Today she is considered among the most significant artists on the Canadian music scene and has been referred to as an"Honorary Canadian" by Authors , Music Publishers and Society of Composers and CBC Radio 3. Neko Case released "The Virginian" in 1997. The album was completely country. It consisted of original work of Case as well as covers songs of singers like Loretta Lynn and Ernest Tubb. It also included a cover of a Queen song, Misfire.

Neko Case' came out with her second studio album as a solo artist by the name "Furnace Room Lullaby". The album shifted her "honky tonk" style to country noir. Critics started comparing her to the likes of Hazel Dickens, Dolly Parton and Tanya Tucker. During the time Furnace Room Lullaby came out, Case moved to Chicago because she had started to feel that Seattle wasn't hospitable enough to artists. The first work of Case' in Chicago was the release of the EP Canadian Amp. This was followed by the release of her third studio album "Blacklisted". It was her first album that was solely her own work without any collaboration from "Her Boyfriends".

Neko Case occasionally contributed vocals for The New Pornographers after 2003, and the release of "Electric Version". In their 2010 album "Together" she provided vocals for My Shepherd and Crash Years. Her latest album "The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You" was announced to be released in September of 2013.
